How to read this
The part number is the bucket key, not the core count. Two 64-core Rome chips can differ by 600MHz and 80W (7702 vs 7H12), and two 64-core Milan chips by 512MB of L3 — the 7773X carries 3D V-Cache, marked in amber. Production status and lock risk split them further: an engineering sample and a retail chip share a part number without being the same product, and neither are a Dell-fused chip and an open one. 263 listings of P-suffix parts (7702P, 7713P) are excluded: those have their second-socket links fused off and cannot run in a dual board, so their low $/core is not a bargain on this list.

Dual-socket SP3 boards Milan capability verified, not assumed

How to read this
Sockets, slots and per-channel are one story: the CPU gives 8 memory channels per socket no matter which part it is, and the board decides how many of those get a slot. slots ÷ (8 × sockets) is the per-channel figure — 1DPC is the full-bandwidth population, 2DPC reaches more capacity but most platforms clock down a grade, and anything under 1 strands channels the socket was willing to drive. Milan capability is separate and unforgiving: an H11DSi is a dual SP3 board that will never run Milan — no BIOS changes that — while an ASRock ROME2D16-2T says "Rome" and runs Milan fine. Where support turns on board revision, this says check revision rather than guessing.

How to read this
Complete, barebones and cpu-unstated are separate rows: a chassis with two 64-core parts inside is not comparable to an empty one, and "no CPU named" is not the same claim as "sold without CPUs". Max EPYC is read from the model, and the trap is HPE's — DL385 Gen10 Plus is Rome-ceiling while Gen10 Plus v2 is the Milan platform. 320 1U listings are excluded: 1U has no room for a tower cooler, forces 40mm high-static fans, and caps the TDP the chassis will pass — wrong shape for a 64-core node. Rack height comes from the model rather than the title, so a 2U4N node reads as the 2U of rack it actually occupies. 121 Naples-only listings are excluded (R7425, R7415 and friends): the 64-core floor starts at Rome, so those chassis run nothing on this page.

How to read this
One row is one order: sixteen identical sticks, one per channel on a dual board. Ranked on total, not $/GB — $/GB rewards buying more memory than the build needs, which is the wrong answer to "what do I buy". Confidence combines sample size with quartile spread: a tight band over 20+ listings is a price, a wide band over 3 is an anecdote, and the cheapest row on the page is usually thin for a reason. Organisation is ranks x width2Rx4 is the ordinary dual-rank part and the safe default. Single-rank sticks give up rank interleaving, LRDIMM and RDIMM cannot be mixed in a system, and 8-rank 3DS parts need board support. Rows with no organisation are listings that never stated it: usable as a price signal, not as a part to order.

How to read this
Two processors, one board and a full set of memory, at the medians on this page. 512GB is the floor — 4GB per core on a 128-core node, and the cheaper 256GB builds only ever won by giving that up. Every population fills all 16 channels, because bandwidth follows channels rather than gigabytes; the choice is whether each channel gets one stick or two. 1DPC is the default and wins on price at 512GB and 1TB. 2DPC only pays at 2TB, where the 128GB sticks a 1DPC plan needs are priced worse than twice as many 64GB ones — but it needs a 32-slot board and most SP3 platforms clock a grade down when every channel is doubled, so a 2DPC row at DDR4-3200 will not run at 3200. The board is matched to the CPU's generation rather than forced to Milan: a Rome part runs on an H11 board and should not be charged for support it cannot use, worth about $650 a node. Single-socket P parts are excluded throughout — they will not POST in a dual board. Excludes PSU, chassis, cooling, storage and NIC.

Each listing is decomposed into the processors and memory named in its title, priced at the bucket medians on this page. parts / ask is the whole answer: above 1.00 the components are worth more than the box, below it you are paying a premium for the chassis. residual is asking price minus parts — what the market charges for chassis, board, PSUs, backplane and drives, which this deliberately does not price, because an OEM board is proprietary and has no whitebox comparable to price it from. 127 of 53 carry PSB processors: those chips resell at a measured 0.93x to someone with the same vendor's chassis, but are worth nothing toward a whitebox build because they will not POST on a Supermicro board. Listings offering several memory or processor options are priced at their base option and tagged base cfg.

Reading a memory listing what the abbreviations decide

RDIMM vs LRDIMM

RDIMM — registered
A register buffers the address and command lines; the data lines run straight to the DRAM. Lowest latency, cheapest, and by far the deepest supply on the used market. This is the right default for a 512GB build.
LRDIMM — load-reduced
A buffer sits on the data lines too, so the memory controller sees one electrical load per DIMM instead of one per rank. That is what makes 128GB and 256GB sticks possible, and what lets heavily ranked parts run two-per-channel. Costs more and adds a little latency.
You cannot mix the two in one machine. Pick one and populate all 16 slots with it.

Organisation — 2Rx4

Ranks — the number before the R
Independent groups of chips the controller addresses one at a time. Two ranks let it interleave, working one while the other settles; a single-rank stick gives that up. More ranks also mean more electrical load, which is why 4R and 8R parts are usually LRDIMM.
Width — the number after the x
Bits per DRAM chip, x4 or x8. An x4 part uses twice as many narrower chips, and that layout is what supports the stronger single-device error correction server platforms rely on.
2Rx4 is the ordinary dual-rank server part and the safe default. 8Rx4 is 3DS stacked-die for very high capacity and needs board support.

What follows from it

Die density is derived, not stated
stick GB × 8 ÷ (ranks × 64/width) gives the die density in Gbit. A 32GB 2Rx4 is built from 8Gbit dies; a 32GB 1Rx4 needs 16Gbit ones. Same capacity, different part, often a different price.
Speed depends on how you populate
On Rome and Milan, one dual-rank RDIMM per channel reaches DDR4-3200. Doubling up to two per channel typically drops a grade, so 16 larger sticks beat 32 smaller ones for a fixed capacity.
Listings that never state organisation are priced here but marked — usable as a price signal, not as a part to order.

Known gaps what this page cannot see

675 processors never mention lock state
Silence is not evidence of an unlocked chip. For Rome and Milan this is the one question to put to the seller.
1,643 memory listings state no organisation
Density is unknowable from the SERP for these. Recovering it means a hydrate pass over the item pages.
Wide spreads are extraction bugs
A bar running the full column means unlike things still share a bucket — chase the outlier, don't read it as a bargain.
Sold data is thin on servers and boards
eBay's sold results reach back about 90 days. Rows without three sales show no sold figure rather than a guess.
